From the Groningen central railway station to the KVI

If you arrive by train at the Groningen central station, you can take a taxi to the KVI (for ca. € 12; the cheaper ‘train taxis’ are not available anymore!) or take bus nr. 11 or 15 to 'Zernike'. During rush-hours both line 11 and 15 have a 10-minute schedule, resulting in a bus leaving for ‘Zernike’ approximately every 5 minutes. Line 15 is only available during working days. On Saturday line 11 has a 15- or 30-minute schedule, depending on the time of day, while on Sunday it leaves every 30 minutes all day. We have to warn you that during week-days the buses to ‘Zernike’ are regularly very crowded with students! It will take you approximately 20 minutes to walk from the stop ‘Zernike’ to the KVI.

By car

If you come from the south (direction Zwolle, Assen) drive to the end of the Highway (A28). At the first traffic lights turn left and following the signs 'Zuidhorn, Bedum'. After approximately 200 m take the first exit, again following the signs 'Zuidhorn, Bedum'. Turning right at the roundabout you will find yourself on the western ring road around Groningen, which you follow for about 3 km. along several traffic lights. Keep right and when the freeway is split in a left part to 'Zuidhorn' and a right one to 'Bedum' you take the latter one. Immediately after having entered the northern ringway you take off after ca. 300 m (small sign 'Crematorium'). At the end of the exit turn left and pass underneath the highway. After another 100 m you enter the 'Zernike complex'. Follow the signs 'Kernfysisch Versneller Instituut', roughly another 1.5 km to the north. The KVI is the building next to the modern windmill which you can see from far away. If you come by car from any other direction, enter the ring road around Groningen and drive to the north-western sector, where you take off following the sign 'Crematorium'. Further follow to the instructions above.
